The leadership of Igbo women assembly which is the umbrella body for women has lambasted President Muhammed Buhari for the continued incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
This is coming even as the women group had previously written to him in a formal way to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to them and engage in a dialogue that will end the agitation that is causing the unwarranted massacre of their children.
Other groups and leaders from old Eastern Nigeria had also added their voices, but Muhammed Buhari has neglected them all which points to the direction that he is unrepentant. His dictatorial tendencies and the hatred for the people of Biafra are still running in his veins. There is a perceived sinister plan to frustrate the people of Biafra into bearing arms that will give credence to already activated the total military action.
This has been proven by Buhari’s continuous massacre of peaceful and lawful Biafra activists, who had come to memorial service or protesting for the release of their leader who has been incarcerated since October last year. Every effort to talk to Muhammed Buhari to withdraw or command soldiers to stop the ongoing massacre of the people of Biafra was fruitless.
He had rather posited that he would rather kill all Biafrans than see them agitate for Biafra. IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has responded very firmly to the unnecessary provocation resulting to loss of members’ lives. After a much deliberated self-defense, it slacked and opted to overrule self-defense and continue in the line of peace. This decision has not helped even though praised by the world; Buhari has sustained the continued massacre of Biafran people, Even as forceful disappearance and secret execution are not spared. Speaking on the unlawful and continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Chief (Mrs) Marie Nwanyiwunwa Okwo, the leader of the group who spoke for Igbo Women assembly angrily noted “He arrested our son, and we have checked and read the reports so far, he was not with a gun, he did not bomb anybody, he did not kidnap anybody, he only talked on the radio and asked for Biafra, he was unlawfully arrested and detained.
We have written to Buhari, he should release our son and stop neglecting us, our son has done nothing, and he should release him and negotiate a way forward with him. The agitation is because of what is wrongly going on in this country, release him and let us sit down on a round table that worsen everything” they angrily said. There have been calls from the indigenous leaders in Biafra demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu. South-South peoples’ assembly, Lower Niger assembly, Niger Delta Avengers, and all the indigenous people of Biafra have in one way or another appealed for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but Buhari chose to play the Pharaoh of our time.
In some quarters, there were strings of the report that some persons are working against the release of Nnamdi Kanu, such people have confronted Kanu to compromise, but he refused. Speaking further, Igbo world women assembly held a contrary view. “It is unfair, the court even released him, and Buhari objected; did he commit murder? Why not release him and negotiate with him straight? He is saying that our children were not born before the war, and so, Can’t they fight another war? He should release Nnamdi Kanu and at worst conduct referendum.
Buhari is insulting us and our region because we gave him 5% vote and we must stand up and decide our future. He should release our son and give us some respect, killing our children is an affront on us and everything we believe in. it is totally wrong to continue massacring our children, we, therefore, call on Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu and negotiate with IPOB” she fumed and continued. “It is wrong, he has not prosecuted Fulani people killing and terrorising us, and he has been arresting and killing our children who have no record of any sort of violence.
We are running out of patience because Buhari is not doing well. IPOB don’t carry gun or bomb yet you arrest them on terrorism charges” Asked to throw more light on the activities of the Igbo women assembly, she noted that as a non-governmental body, Igbo women assembly empower women and direct the youths on the path to take in a hard time. She warned that if the current agitation is not doused by releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the group cannot guarantee that youths would be held back. She decried the lack of trust from the federal government and zero infrastructures which has frustrated the youths and warned that Biafran youths should be employed.
