An Open Letter To David Umahi - Don't Be The Proverbial Chick

The proverbial chick was said to be at the point of death, as someone was trying to save her, she became more conscious of crying.

Dear governor David Umahi, the so called governor of Ebonyi state, it is my outmost desire to write to you as mine attention has been drawn to a public statement issued by your government on Monday the 12th August 2019 via the office of the  Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kenneth Ugbala, and the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Chief Kenneth Uhuo addressing the Indigenous People of Biafra as terrorists therefore banning every of their activities in the state.

The statement went further to reference a court ruling in Abuja Federal high Court in September 2017 where a supposed judge of the law proscribed IPOB and her leadership.

With due respect sir, I plead you pay attention as I lecture you properly on what I think or can call an unforeseen ignorance of yours. And it's no doubt that you have become the proverbial chick.

Firstly, who is a terrorist?

Terrorism is, in the broadest sense, the use of intentional violence, generally against civilians, for political purposes. It is used in this regard primarily to refer to violence during peacetime or in context of war against non-combatants (mostly civilians and neutral military personnel).

You and every single person in Nigeria knows that the Indigenous People of Biafra has never engaged in any violence against anyone being it combatants or otherwise. If not, can you make it also clear to the public on occasions and situations where evidently IPOB were violent?

Instead, your government in diverse ways has instigated terrorism on innocent Biafrans by unjustly touring, kidnapping and killing them without a constitutional pronouncement of any kind against them by any lawful court in Nigeria.

It surprises me that a supposed so called learned and an elite like you could proudly call IPOB a terrorist group whereas, the last time I checked Ebonyi state has been taken over by Fulani herdsmen.

Meanwhile, this group of people have been rated the fourth most deadly group in the world. Then I am forced to ask you what you would term their operations across the land of Ebonyi state.

Putting aside the world rating of the Fulani herdsmen, several incidents, violence and coax that has erupted in Ebonyi state and across Biafra lands leaving scores dead, in which you personally confirmed a month ago were piloted by these killer herdsmen. I am still waiting for your public notice to ban the Fulani herdsmen just like you did with IPOB.

Oga David Umahi, a clear definition of terrorism is what you just did. A clear terrorism is when a Fulani herdsman is walking freely on the streets of Ebonyi state, such has endangered the lives of the citizens of Ebonyi. A simple way of defining terrorism is detaining an innocent Biafran who protested against Fulani herdsmen killings or rather in the course of detaining, kill them for no reason.

The act of banning the activities of IPOB is quite laughable and at such, we must address your stupidity. It is becoming clear that you have vouched with your life to destroy the integrity of ndi Igbo and the entire Biafrans. Your desire for position and power has pushed you into infamy, and thus is why leaders like you will choose to die defraudizing the ballot boxes that will push you back to power because of your insecirity geared towards your own people and yourself.

I was made to understand that during the regime of Good luck Ebere Jonathan, the activities of Boko Haram were termed terrorism. However, the northern elites protested against it, writing various letters to the then president. As a result, Muhammadu Buhari was among the protesters. Do you know that IPOB was proscribed under the very command of the same Muhammadu Buhari before his death?

Boko Haram are known killers, not just killing civilians and taking over their communities, they are also reducing the Nigerian military apparatus till date. Who does not know that Boko Haram is a terrorist group apart from their elites and deceptive people like you? The difference between you and the uneducated Fulan man is that you are putting on a good decorum. If not, you are more senseless than them. Mention a single governor, traditional ruler from the north that agreed to the proscription of Boko Haram, herdsmen as terrorists not to mention a public banishment. Or would you say that they don't have mouth or the right platform to talk?

Oga Dav did I hear you say that any individual or group that has any genuine reason to agitate should do so through the platforms of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and other legitimate means within the country? This is the most deceptive part of it all.

Oga Dav have you forgotten so soon that same group invited the 2017 python dance that swallowed more than 30 young youths in Umuahia? It is shameful for a man at your age to keep deceiving your old self. Apart from this, are you not a member of those groups? What positive impact have you made even when you confirmed that our women were being raped in Ebonyi state? I thought you should lead an example with one of those Hausa Fulani betrothed groups you mentioned.

Finally, it seems you have forgotten the fact that the Indigenous People owns the land and not the other way round. You can evacuate Ebonyi state government House if you sole desire not to welcome the indigenous people. However, you should be mindful of your actions because you shall only push us to the wall and you will never like it taste when we bounce back.
