The Heroes Remembrance day is a day set aside by the Indigenous People of Biafra, I.P.O.B., to commemorate the fallen heroes and heroines that lost their lives in defence of the fatherland before, during and after the genocide called war. The genocide started as late as 1945 and went through 1967 to 1970, in which millions of innocent men women and children were gruesomely killed.

This country called Nigeria has in many years ago set aside a day to commemorate the death of her fallen heroes, those that died during the second world war, Civil war etc. which is the 15th day of January every year. This Remembrance Day is called The Armed Forces Day, and it covers the soldiers from other extraction or regions, and that of Biafra (the old eastern region) were left out. After the genocide called war, the Nigerian government in collaboration with Britain announced that in the war, there was “no victor no vanquish” to confuse the rest of the world into believing that really there was no victor and vanquish.

As the Nigerian government refused to recognize the soldiers from the Biafra side as she does for the counterpart from Nigerian side that defended their respective lands, the Indigenous People of Biafra decided to set aside the 30th May every year to commemorate their fallen heroes and heroines. This commemoration was not till the emergence of the supreme leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra in 2014, when he first commemorated the fallen heroes and heroines day in Enugu to honour those who died for you and I to live, and it was peaceful.

In 2016, it was slated to be held at Nkpor in Anambra and on the fateful eve of the 30th May, after the arrival of delegates from different parts of Biafra land at a Catholic Church, the combined Nigerian Military and Police attacked the unarmed delegates, and many were killed while sleeping. After the killing at Nkpor, the leadership of I.P.O.B decided to commemorate the fallen heroes from 2017 by sitting at home as the Nigerian Military cannot kill anybody that seats at home. The commemoration in 2017 and 2018 recorded a massive adherence by the Indigenous people, in fact, there was total lockdown as all businesses including Banks, Markets, Schools, Transportation sectors, Public and Private institutions were under lock and keys. This year’s Remembrance Day has been announced and will be observed as done previously by sitting at home.

At the announcement of this year’s Remembrance Day on 2nd May, the Nigerian government started jittery especially the government of Anambra and Ebonyi because the governors were paid and asked by the Federal government to do anything within their reach to stop the “sit-at-home”. These governors were products of rigged elections. We are using this opportunity to tell the Indigenous People of Biafra, to as a matter of respect to the fallen heroes and heroines to comply with the commemoration by closing all businesses and sit at home. Even after the restoration of Biafra, the Remembrance Day will be retained.

I urge all Biafrans to comply by sitting at home as it is the safest way to commemorate the fallen heroes and heroines and neglect the empty threats given by the Governors of Anambra and Ebonyi states in the persons of Willy Obiano and Dave Umahi
