•No election in Biafraland until referendum is conducted — Kanu declares
UMUAHIA— There was a condition of total, interlocking traffic congestion on the streets leading to Isiama Afara-Ukwu Ibeku; the hometown of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as IPOB Enugu State Mobilizer, Mazi Ikechukwu Egbo Nwodo led members from the state to pay a solidarity visit to Kanu, yesterday, June 20, 2017.
Apart from the State executives and those who came on private vehicles, over 400 members of IPOB in Enugu, arrived Umuahia with a total number of eight 608 long buses to meet up with the huge crowd of people that flooded the vicinity of the IPOB leader; mostly IPOB members who came from other States in Biafraland.
Although, the clemency of the weather became too much in doubt, the people defied the heavy rainfall to answer to the call of the IPOB leader.
IPOB members from various states in Biafraland, were clad with uniforms bearing Biafra and IPOB inscriptions. They were busy hitting their drums and other musical instruments. The members in their hundreds, were singing and dancing to the tunes of various Biafra songs and other songs of freedom as they proceed to the palace.
Guarded by security, the Afara-Ukwu palace of His Royal Majesty Eze Israel Okwu Kanu, had become a beehive of activities as visitors who came for different purposes and mission, were seen trooping in and out of the palace.
Electricity was immediately restored as the Prince from the trigger of the gun, adorned with some native attire belonging to one of the ethnic groups in the riverine areas of Biafra Land, suddenly emerged to welcome and exchange pleasantries from people who had come from far and near to pay homage.
The people who earnestly watched in amazement and with great enthusiasm, reached out their hands; desiring a handshake from Nnamdi Kanu, as he walked through them to acknowledge their greetings.
Earlier on, Kanu had declared that beginning with Anambra state as a point of contact, no election shall be held in any part of Biafraland until a referendum that will determine peoples’ choice is conducted.
He said: “Until the Zoo(Nigeria) agrees on a date for referendum, there will be no election here anymore. We are starting with Anambra state. That they may know that this land belongs to our ancestors.
“This land must be set free. Here we shall die, and here we shall be buried,” and Biafrans in a large, resounding voice echoed “Iseee!!!”
