The cry for peace and unity in Nigeria without facing the realities that guarantee peace and unity is the lazy thinking of an irresponsible government. Apart from the dubious politicians whose interest are centered on the amount of money in the Ghana must go bag to be loaded for them as allowance when they attend those meetings at the government houses. They always claim they are speaking for the people whereas they are only satisfying their greedy selves. Nigerian politicians are not only dubious, they are hardened and insensitive to the need of the masses they claim to be speaking for.

It is common nowadays for publications on daily news coverage to report calls for peace and national unity as if they have all been instructed to say the same thing. According to the news published by the Vanguard of June 19, 2017, the acting President of the federal republic of Nigeria, at the banquet hall, state house, Abuja on June 18, 2017. The vice president said that, “Nigeria’s Unity is one for which enough blood has been spilled” and that “it will be wrong of us to approach even our grievances by threatening to disobey the laws or by threatening the integrity of our nation”.

One must not be in dilemma considering the fact that the height of injustice in Nigeria, especially towards Biafra’s, is alarming that when the Nigerian constitution is being quoted, it is to ask Biafra to be quiet. The law, the Nigerian constitution is only designed to defend the Hausa Fulani and empower them to continue to spill the blood of Biafran people, like the herdsmen that have been empowered to kill and harass farmers in Biafra land. If not, where is the place for justice and equity when those that threatened the lives of Biafrans in the north are yet to be arrested and prosecuted? The two fundamental questions that must be returned to the banquet hall are:
  1. Those that are being killed, do they have the right to be protected by the government?
  2. Where is the integrity of Nigeria when the DSS illegally arrested, abused and detained Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the supreme leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, where was the integrity of the government when the rulings of the court of competent jurisdiction were denied, from which constitution did they find the iron bail condition given to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu?

It is true that when the problem of Nigeria is being discussed, the number one person to be blamed is Lord Lugard for creating the disaster called Nigeria but it is not enough to dig the graves and look for Lugard’s skull and smash him for the evil, the rape, the continuous spilling of blood, the genocide, and the continuous clamping down of Biafrans. The government of the day must be held responsible for all the injustice and insensitivity to the yearnings and demands of the masses.

Not just that blood has been spilled, enough blood is being spilled, Biafrans are being slaughtered on daily basis and it is high time the world rise and say enough is enough. Enough of the killings, enough to the threats, enough to all the hatred and marginalization and enough of injustice, Biafrans are not animals. To make amendments to the wrongs done to Biafrans, the federal government of Nigeria should stop being lazy and wake up to its responsibilities by announcing the date for Biafra’s referendum. It is not enough to remind the world how the Blood of Biafrans are being spilled.

By now the Nigerian government should have realized that the quest for Biafra is not a quest to disobey the laws rather a quest for a solution to a lasting peace and unity that we all desire. In this case, peace can only be achieved when the grievances are approached with mutual respect. Any attempt to neglect the will of the people and take a lazy approach of abandoning the grievances and stand on the wrong interpretation of the law is a deliberate act of the government to commit genocide. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOP), through its supreme leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is only asking for referendum. It only takes a government who is sensitive to the suffering of the masses to take the appropriate steps in the direction of peace.

Biafra people in all ramifications have proven their support to the Supreme leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Through the peaceful rallies in spite of the tyranny of Nigeria have proven that Biafra are peace loving people and it has demonstrated that Biafra in the face of death remained united and unshakable in demanding for their rights for freedom. And of recent through the total compliance of the May 30 sit at home protest.

Finally, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, cannot claim not to know the right person to talk to and the right thing to do. He is only taking the lazy approach by ignoring the call for referendum and engage senseless politicians in useless meetings of empty words without any meaningful result. The vice president must be made to realize he will be responsible for any further killings of Biafra both in Biafra land and in the North. He must be subjected to the United Nations proclamation for the right for self determination by indigenous people, which Nigeria is a signatory to. Therefore, the right thing to do and the only way out of the tunnel is to grant referendum to Biafra.
