Abuja - The Economics Commission Of West African States (ECOWAS), on Thursday 18th May, 2017, again, failed to rule on the case of Human Rights violation of IPOB leader and Director of Radio Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Buhari-led Federal Government of Nigeria as the seating was furher postponed to 10th October, 2017.
This came as the Biafrans from different regions especially, the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) stormed the ECOWAS court premises for the case to kick off. Numerous Biafrans were seen gathering at the front of the ECOWAS court building in a show of solidarity for the Biafran leader.
The ECOWAS court incessant postponement appears that there is something fishy and a sign of conspiracy between the Nigerian government and ECOWAS court going on secretly, because it is a surprise and controversial that ECOWAS court meant to deliver justice is now perverting justice with adjournment upon adjournment. It is said "justice delayed is justice denied".
Recall that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in the suit, is seeking $800 million compensation for violation of his human rights and an order directing his unconditional release and that of his personal belongings.
He is also praying the court to direct the defendants to respect, protect and promote his rights to life, liberty, and freedom of movement, assembly, and expression.
Nnamdi Kanu is also praying the court to declare that his arrest and detention since Oct. 14, 2015, by the defendants, is in flagrant disobedience to several orders of courts of competent jurisdiction.
He is also praying the court to declare that his continued detention is a violation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Charter of 1970.
