Movement for the Niger
Delta (MEND) has been behaving funny for some time now. The last time it made a
statement, it was to threaten Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), the through warriors
of freedom, and communities where they were camped.
This discredited group
that messed up the people’s freedom fighting with criminality – kidnapping
innocent people and robbing banks – had threatened the NDA then, but ignored by
NDA which was focused on its business of bringing Nigerian economy to zero.
Then, many Biafrans
considered them (MEND) as suffering from the effect of momentary madness either
from weed or crack cocaine. The people hoped they would eventually come back to
their senses after some time. But it appears they never did. Indeed, they
appear to have gone mad again with their latest outing.
Few hours ago, they
released a statement through Sahara Reporters (the Nigerian APC government
mouthpiece) said it had negotiated with Nigerian government and secured grounds
for Nnamdi Kanu’s released, among other things. Nnamdi Kanu is leader of
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra and Biafra
Television. The ground it secured was that Kanu should sign an undertaking that
he would no longer talk about Biafra.
So what those drunken
fools in MEND are saying is that all those innocent and unarmed civilians
murdered by Buhari and his vandal military and police died in vain? MEND is
telling us that Buhari’s case at the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the
Hague should be stopped. They are saying that all the businesses destroyed by
Buhari, all those bombed with Nepal bomb, and all those tortured and killed in
detention for exercising their rights, all died in vain.
One begins to wonder
what the business of MEND in the whole matter is. The group claims to be in a
ceasefire with Nigerian central government headed by Buhari. The group says it
has no business with the structure of Nigeria. It says that its business is
fighting for resource control. But that is not what NDA is fighting for.
From what we have seen,
MEND should know that NDA is not in the illegal business of kidnaping innocent
people, robbing banks and bombing crowds that it was in. MEND should know that
NDA has come with a different philosophy which sits better with the people. That
philosophy is that oil had become a curse to the people – destroying their farmlands
(farming business) and the sea (their fishing business). It has made it impossible
for the people to make a living.
Therefore, they decided
to stop the oil exploitation so that the people will concentrate on the
business that served them over the years. That is why they are pulling down
every structure of oil exploration and exploitation. Why is that difficult for
MEND to understand?
But this MEND had their
day in the sun, but blew it by selfishly trying to warm their way back to the dubious
and inconsistent Nigeria government. They should therefore be advised to stay
away from this one. It becomes necessary that Jomo Gbomo and his MEND is
advised to stop the use of ganja or crack cocaine before going into negotiations.
MEND should be made to understand that if Henry Orkah is desperate to come out
of prison, he should not do so with the fate of millions of Biafrans. They should
be made to understand the difference between Orkah and Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB.
Kanu’s philosophy is
that Nigeria is a prison for Biafrans. Nnamdi Kanu does not consider his coming
out of Kuje prison, while Biafra is still in Nigeria, as freedom. For Kanu, it
is “give me Biafra or death!” This is why MEND so-called negotiation is dead on
arrival.
Another bigger advice
for MEND is “stay out of what does not concern you. You cannot negotiate on
behalf of someone that did not invite you. If you want to secure the release of
your leader, Henry Orkah, find ways to do so. But quit trying to use another
man’s business as a bargaining chip.
MEND MEND MEND, We are watching.
