The Blackwater Mercenaries |
From Biafra Choice Writers
Two things happened few days ago, which many
Biafrans believed have to do with the next phase of Nigerian President,
Muhammadu Buhari’s Islamization agenda of Southern Nigeria. The first thing was
a declaration by Buhari that Nigerian unity was not negotiable. The second was
Buhari’s invitation of Saudi Arabian soldiers as Blackwater Mercenaries.
News had it that Buhari doled out $258m to bring the
mercenaries to Nigerian. A staff in the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Nigeria was
reported to have confirmed the story that Nigeria and Saudi authorities have
concluded plans to deploy the Saudi Blackwater mercenaries to the Niger Delta
region to tackle militants that have been attacking oil installations. The
mercenary group is led by Anwar Eshki, a retired Major-General in the Saudi
Arabia Armed Forces. They have been fighting for Saudi Arabia in Yemen.
Meanwhile, a number of Biafrans have expressed the
view that the deal was part of an agreement Buhari had with the Saudi-led Islamic
coalition against terrorism. Few months ago, Buhari signed a pact with the coalition
on behalf of Nigeria. But it was an illegal agreement because according to Nigerian
laws, it was not approved by the country’s 1999 constitution.
First, a senior official of Indigenous People of
Biafra (IPOB) in Biafraland (who craved anonymity) told Biafra Choice Writers
that Buhari was only preparing to commence the next phase of his Islamization
agenda, especially in Biafraland. He claimed that the two happenings took place
for the same purpose. According to him Buhari’s declaration that Nigeria’s
unity was not negotiable, was because he (Buhari) knew that the only way
Biafrans and Biafraland could be Islamised would be with Biafra remaining
within Nigerian boundary.
On the other hand, he said only gullible people would
believe that Blackwater mercenaries were coming to Nigeria to fight terrorism
and militancy in the Niger Delta. He told Choice Writers that intelligence
information have revealed to Biafrans that the aim was to use the Arabians to fight
Biafrans as Nigeria did with Egyptian pilots against Biafra during the Biafra/Nigeria
war of 1967/70. “If it was to fight terrorism, why didn’t Saudi Arabia apply to
do so against Boko Haram all these years?”
“To start with, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) are not
terrorists, they are freedom fighters. They only want Nigeria and all its
international collaborators to leave their land, so why should Saudi Arabia
leave their land to fight us in our own land?” he added.
He also said that any agreement the Saudi government
had with Buhari was illegal because it was not approved by the country’s National
Assembly. He then insisted that only a rogue and wicked country, which
is looking for other people's and lands to steal and force its religion on them, would enter into such an agreement with Buhari.
He however
promised Buhari and Saudi Arabia that Biafrans were ready to shed their last blood to protect their
land. “Let them come; this is our land; and they will meet their waterloo here! we will feed the fishes in the Atlantic Ocean with their fless” he
finally thundered.Niger NDA has already responded, it declared: "“The Niger Delta Avengers do not care if the federal government hires or concludes plans to bring in Bluewater, Graywater, Pinkwater, Whitewater or Blackwater mercenaries from Saudi Arabia. It is none of our business, the Saudi Arabia, has its own problem of terrorism, so coming here to help Nigerian government is funny. The Niger Delta region will win this war".
