The Explosion that occurred in Ajao Estate, in Oshodi
Isolo LGA Lagos State on the 28th of July 2020, claimed several lives. At the
time of filling this Report, several body parts picked up at different
locations could not give a clue of the exact number of casualties nor their
identities.
Accessing the scene of the explosion was made difficult
by Security operatives and State Emergency Response Team who cordoned the area
from Press officials and others.
Today, our Media Personnel Ngozichukwu Ada-Dav and Madam
Jovita visited again and were able to get some details from a young Yoruba man
in that neighbourhood who claimed to have driven a particular Woman and her
family to the spot before the explosion occurred.
The scene of the Explosion is a welder’s shop. According
to the Yoruba man (Eye witness):
"A young man whose identity has not be confirmed
came in a Tricycle (Keke) to refill welding Gas and within a space of 10
minutes the explosion occurred, killing the Gas seller and the buyer. A tailor
whose shop is close to the welder's shop was equally dismembered. The woman who
runs the Welding shop and her daughter were both turn in pieces.
Some other people affected are not resident in the area
of explosion and therefore we cannot say whom they are. So many survivors are
still at the hospital in critical condition. I cannot give the exact number of
casualties right now" he concluded.
From what we are seeing here, buildings about 20 meters
away were affected, windows and doors shattered, structures in that environment
were pulled down from foundation, body parts, skulls, limps and others were
picked far away from the scene by the Lagos State Emergency Team and have been
deposited at the morgue.
From the impact of the explosion and level of destruction
caused, there is a strong suspicion of sabotage.
We look forward to a statement from the State Government
as well as the family of the deceased members.
