Stupidity is when a Bishop, Pastor, Reverend, and so on go to Jerusalem for their Pilgrimage and to pray, yet hate Judaism. We human beings are such that sometimes I wonder how many people can beat their chest and verifiably say that they sincerely want to know the truth. An average human being tends to retreat from unpleasant realities (truths) through diversion or fantasy. There is a big difference between seeking to know the truth AS IT IS and holding onto one's opinion (what one wish is the truth), and processing it as the truth. "Christians" take the Bible to be inspired by God and therefore regard its contents to be nothing but the truth. In that light, let us consider the attitude of human beings towards knowing the truth. Philippians 4:19 says, "And my God will supply all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Any preacher that give this quotation will take all the time in the world to emphasize and explain each word of the passage to the excitement and cheering of his congregation. You hear analysis like: • My God: the creator and the owner of everything. • Will supply: will make available. • Your needs: whatever that is necessary. • According to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus: according to his recourses which is everything, because Jesus is the heir of all things. Okay. 1 Timothy 6:10 says, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." This passage is also a part of the Bible and should be the truth as well. But preachers usually run short of emphasis and explanations when it comes to quotations like this. There won't be detailed analysis like:
• Love: to cherish. What you cherish you want to have. Therefore the want of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
• Root: origin; source. Where something begins or what springs something into being. So the desire to have money springs all kinds of evil. • Evil: the quality of being wrong in principle and in practice. So the fact that you cherish money and want to have it is a fundamental principle that makes you commit evil (sin). If you want to stop sinning you must not cherish money or want to have it.
If you give word for word analysis to the second passage like I did, people will tell you that you don't read the Bible like a novel, that you need the Holy Spirit to interpret it. But if you give word for word analysis to the first passage, they won't tell you that you read it like a novel. They will even say the Holy Spirit gave you the interpretation. Sycophants! Charlatans! Ndi menu.
The integrity and the sincerity that leaves one unbiased in the quest to know (and conform to) the truth is lacking. And that is precisely what reduced "Christianity" to the confusion it has become. Everybody is twisting the Bible to suit his own fancy. Too sad!
The Master says, "You will know the truth (as it is, not as you want it to be) and it will set you free."
