ENUGU—On 9th of September 2018 The Indigenous People Of Biafra Enugu
East local government under Enugu East Senatorial District celebrates the new
yam festival also known as "Iri Ji Ofuru Umu Ihe."
As one of the core Igbo traditional festival, the new yam feast is one the
most popular festival dully observed every year. This believe is inherent from
our ancestors right from history of Ndi Igbo and up till date we the children
are also follow right steps of our forefathers and ancestral.
At beginning of the event, it started with opening prayers, worship
and praise to Chukwu Okike Abiama the supreme creator of everything. All
traditional and cultural protocols were dully observed as the eldest man from
Nike area who is also available arena was called upon to bless the cola nut
(Oji Igbo) declaring the program officially open.
Almost all the IPOB zones under Enugu East local government area were
represented in the feast as special canopy is made available for each zone. Zones
gave their supports in approval of this great event.
After a little while, the official cutting of New yam was called up as
new roasted yam products were brought out before every one to observed how it
goes including red palm oil (mmanu), pepper (Ose), Iodized salt (Nnu), Knife
and so on...
One of the clergies who also honour the invitation Pastor Edward Chukwu
and Apostle Savior Ukpai prayed on the new yam for blessings abound upon us.
The chairman of the occasion was appointed to cut the yam as one of the
traditional procedure, after the cutting of yam the pieces of yam was shared to
every all the elderly men and followed by the principal officers who were
present at the a program, every individuals was given some pieces of yam as
they all eat and have a taste of the new yam while eating eat it everyone was
served with all food stuff that was made available and today marks the
beginning of yam consumption in their land.
To make the event more lively and educative, masquerades were displayed
entertaining the various guest from far and near.
Some popular musicians were present at the event, among them is our
brother Dom Prince who came and honour the programme. Don Prince as one of
Biafran and IPOB big artist, he was giving the microphone for live performance
as he rocks the whole venue with his God given musical talent.
Many people appeared in their Igbo's traditional attire and there were a
lot of Biafran cultural display at the event.
Announcement was made by the Enugu East senatorial district coordinator,
Mazi Uchenna Nnamchi that Everybody must observed the General Strike on 14th Of
September, 2018 which will result to Sit-At-Home as we pray and mourn for our
brothers who were killed during the operation python dance II in Biafra land.
The traditional ruler blessed the people as he gave thanks to Chukwuokike
Abiama for preserving our lives and also for making our land to produce good
food for our consumption. He also prayed for the land for more fruitfulness and
that marks the end of the program.
