Variety Of Ofe Nsala and Others

By Ikenna Ozulumba Mbaegbu, 17th Nov. 2017

As the Anambra State Gubernatorial Election which comes up on November 18th is fast approaching, May I seize this opportunity to remind Biafrans out there, especially those who don’t buy the idea of Nsala Soup that the option for them to choose another food is still there.

Nsala day, as the case may be, is nothing but a nomenclature given to the 18th November 2017 (The day of Anambra Guber).

However, what every Biafran should focus their attention on here is the SIT-AT-HOME and the successful boycotting of the ELECTION. How one goes about it to achieve this objective remains our individual affairs. But we should try and adhere to the instruction issued out to us by the Supreme leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, The Ohamadike one of Biafra land.

I am just saying that even though it has been tagged “OFE NSALA DAY, it still does not stop one from going after what he or she desires to have during the indoor stay.  Other recipes such as Peppered Snail dish (the one I now have a huge interest on), Egusi Soup, Okra Soup, vegetable soup, even “Nkwobi and Isi ewu” are also available for your own take.

Our people have a saying that “Uche onye adi ya njo” (Free Speech is immensely cherished & encouraged in Igbo culture).

During my little conversation with the leader of Umuchiukwu Writers, Mazi Udeagha Agwu Obasi a few days ago, concerning the issue of this trending “Nsala Day,” I was surprised when Mazi Obasi plainly told me that he would go for “Egusi soup.” I believe that to be his own preference.

When I talked to Mazi Richmond C. Amadi, the Umuchiukwu Writers publisher to know his own take concerning this same issue, the young man simply told me that he had already bought a life-goat to be slaughtered on that day. He further said that he would use the meat to prepare “Nkwobi and isi ewu” in his own house as he had invited some friends over.

Onyechere Ugochinyere, another Umuchiukwu eagle-eyed journalist also told me during our conversation that she had planned to use a fowl to prepare a palatable “Bitter leaf soup” (Ofe Onugbu) which will go along with a pounded yam.

Even my humble self, Ozulumba have changed my mind over the Nsala Soup, not because of lack of condiments with which to prepare it, but because I have had enough of it and wish to try something new, as I really desire to enjoy myself very well that day. My new option this time around is a "Peppered SNAIL Recipe.” And I have planned to wash down this mouthwatering dish with three bottles of chilled Hero lager beer (Ohmpa).

Having said all these, May I still remind Biafrans out there that the boycott of the Nigeria elections in Biafra land is a desideratum, in fact, it is a sine qua non that we Biafrans do so, as directed by the Supreme leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for it is one of the things that will lead to what will get us BIAFRA.

As you enjoy your favorite recipes during the sit-at-home, always have it at the back of your minds that our freedom remains a priority.

Referendum is what we are only asking for and that is the purpose of this election boycott. Since the Nigerian government has refused to grant us this referendum which is our indigenous right, we must exercise this right by boycotting her elections. People should know that a call for a referendum is not a call for war.  Absolute “Freedom” is our indigenous right and we must have it.
