Biafra: Nigeria, the citadel of injustice, is exposed once again – how one of its courts locked-up innocent men for two years without evidence or witnesses for trial

Today, Biafrans are going to court to participate and observe the most bizarre case of the century. It is the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and his colleagues, who were being charged with Treasonable Felony without evidences and without witnesses.

All over the world, it is only in Nigeria that one sees such level of injustice being meted out against citizens on a daily basis by the country’s judiciary, and nobody is outraged about. Instead, the people go about their businesses unperturbed, as if nothing is happening. Imagine the recent revelation, concerning Kanu and his colleagues, and people who call themselves human beings and citizen of the country, have been sleeping and waking without any qualms.

The is what Biafrans have been suffering in Nigeria’s Federal High Court, Abuja, being presided by Justice Binta Nyako, relative of Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.  

Rather than release these men to go home to their families, the same court has for two years now been contriving delays, and have finding ways to stall the case up till today. Using every delay tactics it could muster – from unnecessary adjournments and declarations – the court was invariably creating time for the executive arm of government to hunt for evidence, or even to create some since none actually existed.

It is in their bid to hunt for evidence or create some that Nigerian Army invaded Biafraland under the guise of a sham military maneuver they called operation Python Dance. It was under this operation that they invaded Nnamdi Kanu’s home, destroying everything in sight, killing more than 23 people, and then stealing properties of the people – even bags of rice, tubers of yam, and kegs of palm and vegetable oil. As if that was not enough, they took Kanu and his parents away and nobody has heard of them up till today. When asked to produce them, they have been lying ceaselessly, saying one thing today, and changing it to another tomorrow. IPOB leadership has asked them to produce him in court today; nobody knows whether they will do so or whether they will continue to lie.

In their bid to create evidences, since there were none, they had displayed pump-action rifles, which were imported into the country by legitimate and certified gun dealers, and claimed they were guns imported by IPOB. Who overthrows governments with pump-action rifles?

This shouting injustice against the Biafrans was made known recently when a preliminary judgment on the matter by Nyako, was made known to the public. Nyako, had insisted that unless evidences and witnesses where provided, that she would not proceed with the case. But today, the case comes up, and there is still no single evidence or witness made available for the case to commence.

So, we go to court today, expecting that the innocent Biafrans will be released to go home to their families. We go to court expecting that no more delay tactics would be provided to shield a wicked and evil government that has nothing for the people than hardship, sorrows and gnashing of teeth.
