South Africa, (AN24) – In a bid to secure justice for its leader and director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu in his ongoing trial for treasonable felony, the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) will today, Friday, August, 12, 2016, stage a mega protest at the Amnesty International in Pretoria, South Africa.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Chukwudi C. Chidiebere Obiukwu and published by one of the front-runners of the Biafra struggle on Social Media, Emeka Gift.
Mr. Gift made the revelation in a post published on his official Facebook page ‘Emeka Gift‘ on Thursday, August, 11, 2016.
The statement reads: ” IPOB South Africa are having a big protest tomorrow being 12 August 2016 in Amnesty International here in South Africa. If you have any of your brother or friends here in South Africa please tell him to join us by calling any of this numbers : 0731996822 / 0730777631 / 0849175134 /0749222170″.
Recall Kanu alongside his co-accused, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi are facing a six-count charge of treasonable felony, brought against them by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Although they have been granted bail twice by a federal high court sitting in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government has refused to obey the court orders raising doubts over the possibility of Mr. Kanu and his co-accused regaining freedom.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International South Africa (AI SA) is a South African organisation that works to end human rights abuses along with its affiliate organization Amnesty International.
Amnesty International South Africa was founded in 1990 and grew from modest beginnings to become a key player in South Africa’s transition to democracy and an important part of Amnesty’s international movement, hosting the Amnesty International ICM in 1997.
Today Amnesty International South Africa continues to campaign on multiple fronts including human rights education, women’s rights and arms control.
